Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang has asked the students to equip themselves with various technologies available in present times to help them move ahead and said ‘students are the think-tank and can help plan for the future.’

Speaking as the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebration of Jalukie Students’ Union at JSU Central Park Jalukie under Peren district yesterday, Zeliang said the students are not only leaders of tomorrow but also leaders of present time.

He also impressed upon the gathering that celebrations should have meaning and should be goal oriented. Noting that Jalukie valley was blessed with fertile and vast land,it can be channelized to transform its society to live up to its name ‘rice bowl of Nagaland’, he said this celebration should mark as a beginning of a new era, an era of self-sufficiency. ‘If this is not done, then we would be moving towards a diminishing return,’ he cautioned.

Zeliang stressed that cultural identity should be preserved and maintaining that one reason why Nagas are recognized globally as a tribe is our rich culture. He also congratulated the pioneers and students leaders of Jalukie for coming this far and celebrating the jubilee while also wishing them the very best for the future.

Minister for Power Kipili Sangtam, who was also present on the occasion, encouraged the students to live up to the maxim of simple living and high thinking. He said 21st century is a century of scientific living and added that celebrations are achievements of yesterday. He further exhorted the students to celebrate in future the fruit of today’s action.
