NLFT militants fire on BSF in India-Bangladesh border
Agartala:To prevent barbed wire fencing along hilly stretches in India-Bangladesh border in north-eastern part of North Tripura district, suspected banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants has opened fire at Border Security Force (BSF) at Vandarima, police said on Monday. Police said that BSF jawans had also retaliated with counter fire on Sunday but no casualty was reported from any side. The militants had reportedly fired from Bangladesh soil, whose other side of the border falls at patrolling party of BSF 98th battalion, the police said. “The incident happened around sunset, when the border guards were returning back from the border points of Tripura-Mizoram and Bangladesh,” police stated. This is the fifth attack by NLFT militants in the eastern border of Tripura this year. The repeated attacks on the workers engaged in fencing work and security personnel has prevented the barbed wire fencing in the critical stretches of Bangladesh’s hill region of Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT). The Tribal dominated hilly parts of CHT has been used by the banned militants of Tripura and other militant outfits of northeast as their hideouts and base camps to carry out anti-India activities, police said.(UNI)
People urged to kill animals with guns
Aizawl:The animal rights group People for Animals (PFA) on Monday appealed to the people of Mizoram to kill animals, to be used for community feasts, only with guns during during Christmas. In an appeal made through the media including local television channels, the PFA asked the people to be merciful to the animals while killing them for community feasts. “Killing animals with guns is the most merciful way as the animals met instant death,” the PFA said, adding that the traditional way of butchering was cruel causing sufferings for a longer period. Hundreds of animals including mithun, cattle, pigs and chicken would be slaughtered during the Christmas and New Year festivities across the state for preparation of feasts. (PTI)
Survival N’land irked over silence of Govt. on illegal migrants
Kohima:The Survival Nagaland movement has reiterated on the issue of influx of Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants (IBIs) into the state questioned what were the State Government and apex bodies like Naga Hoho, NSF, Naga Mothers Association and Churches doing about this serious problem. In a release on Sunday the Public Relation Cell of Survival Nagaland has affirmed that the problem needed to be addressed at the earliest and appealed to every responsible Naga to wake up from their slumber and do the needful as a responsible citizen. It alleged those immigrants very easily procure documents from neighbouring states and from local authorities by paying certain amount of money enabling them to acquire driving license, bank loans, trade license, LPG cards, PMDJY and other documents. Nagaland Governor greets people on Christmas
Kohima:Nagaland Governor P B Acharya has greeted people of the state on the occasion of Christmas. “Christmas is an occasion to renew the bonds of love, tolerance and compassion as has been taught by Jesus Christ to the world,” the Governor said in a message here on Monday. Dy Chief Minister appeals to all to stop acts of terrorism
Imphal:Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Monday appealed in the House to stop all sorts of terrorism attack on civilians. He condemned the killing of three persons and injury of four persons in a blast at Khuyathong on Sunday. He also said the splinters from the blast site have been collected and it was found that a powerful explosive was used. Mr Gaikhangam said involvement of militants was suspected. Those killed and injured were from mostly UP who were having tea in the bus stand. Investigations are going on in full swing and so far no one claimed responsibility for the killing. He further assured the House results for recruitment in the state police force will also be made by next month. Verification of certificates enclosed by the candidates takes a long time as the certificates are from all parts of the country he added.During question hour replying to a question raised by Kh Joykishan the Dy CM said there is no case of police refusing to register FIR.(UNI)
