‘SHE Teams’ formed to curb eveteasing, stalking

Women Help Desks to be launched soon

Hyderabad: As part of safety to women and particularly to women employees in the IT corridor here, Cyberabad Police on Tuesday launched 60 ‘SHE Teams’ to control eveteasing and stalking of women.

The SHE Teams will be in mufti and spread themselves out in the 200 hotspots identified in Cyberabad area.

They will watch out for eveteasers/stalkers at bus stops, colleges among other places, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand told reporters. Each team will comprise of SI/ASI rank officers and women constables who will be provided with spy cams to film the acts against women as evidence, he said.

“They will record the act of eveteasing/stalking in the spy cam, of persons indulged in such acts, who will be taken into custody and an awareness and counseling session will be conducted at the spot. Such accused will also be counselled at police Headquarters immediately alongwith their parents and action will be taken as per law,” Anand said, adding a watch will be kept on them in future too.

The SHE Teams will react to ‘Dial 100’ calls and go to the scenes of crime. A SHE Teams ‘Facebook Page’ was also launched today, the Cyberabad Police Chief said.

A Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell has started at the CP Cyberabad Office where counseling activity, the progress of cases registered and SHE Teams coordination will be done.

Anand further said SHE Teams will conduct awareness campaigns in all IT companies, colleges and schools.

“The safety of women in IT corridor will be given special attention, 10 out of the 60 SHE Teams will move exclusively in the IT corridor.”

All the 43 Law and Order Police stations of Cyberabad Commissionerate will have “Women Help Desks” to listen to issues/complaints brought in by women and do the initial counseling and enquiry, he added. (PTI)
