Last night, as I went to sleep I heard that haunting and piercing, screech of truck brakes… driving through the night and through the city. I thought those days were over. I am not the first to write about this; two letters already, in a few days, have been published in this Newspaper talking about the new occurrence at night, of trucks driving through the city, as opposed to driving on the Bye-Pass. The only question to ask is, why is no one stopping them ? Especially if as the articles’ in this paper suggest…it is coal being carried, in contravention to the NGT ban. In which case, they should not be on the road at all! This is a most unacceptable allowance on the part of the State Government and all responsible Authorities. Here’s the thing. Anyone who has a job in the private sector, does the job. For some most peculiar reason, this does not appear to be the case when you have a job in the public sector. Ethics ? What’s that ? Christmas is here…. and I would have preferred to write something cheerful and with good tidings, but I am driven to write about the most un-festive and sorrowful tidings of screeching trucks back on our roads. Our Christmas night parties are coming-up and our roads should be safe… Always.
Please put an end to the trucks, they make our roads unsafe.

This is the peak of the evidences of loose foundations shaking a boot over the ‘Potential for Excellence’ University. NEHU is the happening place of whimsical events. Despite its aimless but continuous efforts the Great Institution could not still “locate” a genuinely capable Mr. /Ms. Right for its VC Chair. The over-stretched situations i.e., lack of acceptable
alternatives coolly humming “just to pass the time you-are-the-only-one” or “my Delhi contacts are better than yours” etc., are competent to postpone any gesture favouring regular appointment. These hot favourites are being sung in their high pitched volumes but these melodies rising from dented privileges are the current rage. Is there not a single macho or more appropriately even a “fecho” from our matrilineal society who can claim to fit the university top position? Well our crippled system cannot be expected to show more perfection that believing the grey hair or in fact the hair- less as the Symbol of Perfection with unique combinations i.e., intellectuality with administrative numbness. The so-called dumb (o)
administrators (like our political leaders counted by their alternative potentialities ignoring the most counted characters of genuine leadership) believe in twisted qualifications to take access of authority viz., how to take decisions without the knowledge of rules and regulations, how to get the work done by small time contractual agreements as the on-duty olders
go into deep snooze, how to spend quality time lingering around with opposite gender in the campus grounds doling out promises tied with one-to-one but understandable favours when large chunk of its establishments cannot inhale a proper
breath under air tight conditions to appease the temporal position holders. If recycling of materials is a form of putting the damn waste into productive use, the NEHU rightly understood and also believes in same philosophy applicable to “living beings”. Besides anticipating and over-rating the self-assessed potentialities the entire university machinery could not find even a single qualified PA to VC (What to talk about new VC..?). Is it that both are the positions of grey-hair league, sharehidden agenda of comfy equations viz., I know you, you know me and we know all about each other more than anybody? So, the situation, cannot accommodate anyone new. Well should we question NEHU directly then? Now why is a retired PA still continuing long after his retirement? What is the mystical calibre the retired PA has and non other
possess? Who is prompting these sorts of ad-hoc styles in the University? Is it not a shame on the capacity of the Central University practicing such patchwork functioning? Are we supposed to expected perfections from these imperfections? Is it that the retired PA is a bonus or a complimentary gift tied along with VC Post, as you cannot expect a more perfect decision from logger heads? If there is no reaction for this information I proclaim that our imbecile reasoning should admit
that when we allow a system of misfits we tend to tolerate offshoots of ill-fits. Is anyone listening?
