Three kids of a family burnt alive in Mizoram

Aizawl:Three minor children of a tribal family, including a girl, were burnt alive and one was seriously injured in Mizoram as their hut went up in flames, police said Friday. “Three children, aged between six and three years, were burnt to death after their bamboo hut gutted early Thursday at Vairengte village (in Kolasib district) along the Mizoram-Assam border,” a Mizoram police official said. He said the victims’ parents were away when the tragedy struck. A nine-year-old brother of the children suffered over 70 percent burns and is admitted to a government hospital in critical condition. The eldest 11-year-old sibling was attending Christmas service at a church whenthe hut caught fire.  Police, quoting the villagers, said, the victims’ 32-year-old mother Lalrammawii was out of the house with her 7-month-old infant, asking her neighbours for some rice to cook on Christmas day as the poor Reang tribal family had nothing to eat at their home. The 34-year-old Sanga, father of the kids, was away in another town in search of work. The fire is believed to have been caused by a kerosene lamp they used for lighting the home, the police official added.(IANS)

2 NSCN (IM) linkmen arrested in Arunachal

Itanagar:Two NSCN-IM linkmen were arrested from Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on being produced by 14 Assam Rifles personnel. They were arrested on Thursday with a sum of Rs 15000 cash which was collected by them to handover to NSCN-IM. One accused has been identified as Chanron Mossang, who is the head of Phinbiro-2 village, according to official sources informed here today.In another case, Bordumsa police caught one truck carrying illegally coal. The truck has been seized by the police. Till now three persons have been arrested in this case. Further investigations of both cases are under process, sources added. (UNI)

Destitute lady delivered baby on Tripura Street on X-mass

Agartala:Tripura Health Minister Badal Chaudhury on Friday asked his department to arrange all logistics to an unmarried mentally challenged mother who gave birth of boy child on street Thursday. The mother delivered the baby in the early morning in Shantirbazar of South Tripura when religious procession of Christian believers on X-Mass passing through the street. “We consider him a new incarnation of Jesus Christ who came before us,” said Dhamendra Reang adding that if the mother and child continue to be destitute, the local church will take the responsibility of their future. Meanwhile, the health minister Mr Chaudhury who has been elected from South Tripura said here today that both child and mother have been shifted to Shantirbazar hospital and department will take of their health. He said for past few years, she was known to wander the streets of Shantirbazar.She slept on the road, ate from bins and went about in tatters.  Localities noticed her protruding belly some months ago, and dismissed it as fibroid growth. According to report, the mother identified herself as Rekha Majumder. She is around 25 years old, went into labour and self-delivered a baby boy as residents watched in awe and reported to police.(UNI)

Carnage postpones Carnival

Guwahati:The Assam Carnival 2014-15 has been postponed for an indefinite period due to the latest carnage of innocent villagers in the state. The Carnival, which was scheduled from December 23 to January 1 with various progammes spread across different venues, has been postponed as a mark of respect for the victims, official sources said here. The Assam Carnival 2014-15 was slated to be held under the aegis of the Tourism Department with a view to attract tourists to the state.Two tourist hotspots – Manas National Park and Bogamati, have also been closed down for visitors due to the recent carnage.Close to 80 people have been killed so far in the carnage triggered by a series of firing incidents by NDFB(S) in Kokrajhar, Sonitpur and Chirang districts on December 23. Christmas celebrations on second day in Mizoram

Aizawl: Celebrations of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ to redeem the world from sin and destruction, which began since Wednesday evening climaxed today with community feasts across Mizoram. Members of different churches in their own local churches in the capital city, district headquarters and all the villages organised feasts as the grand finale for the Christmas celebrations. While some churches like Salvation Army and United Pentecostal Church (UPC) had feast yesterday bigger churches like Presbyterian Church and the Baptist Church organised feasts today. The feast may continue everyday till the end of the year in some tiny and remote villages. (PTI)
