SHILLONG: The final match of the 3rd Ardhendu Chaudhuri Memorial Cricket Tournament organized by Rilbong Sports and Cultural Club will be played between Aparajita Club and Jhalupara Youth Association on January 3 at 5.30 pm. In the 1st semi-final, Aparajita defeated Laban Sports Club by 5 wickets while in the 2nd semifinal Jhalupara Youth Association defeated Aurobindo by 6 wickets

Ankita Raina in final of ITF women’s tennis tournament
Pune: India’s Ankita Raina blasted her way into the final of the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) women’s $25,000 tennis tournament, beating a gutsy Romanian Cristina Ene 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 at the Deccan Gymkhana courts here Friday. Ankita also became only the sixth Indian to make it thus far in the 14-year history of the tournament. Only one Indian had managed to win this tournament and Ankita will try and get her name in the record books when she takes on Katy Dunne of Britain in the summit clash Saturday. For the fourth seed Ankita, it wasn’t an easy match as the score-line would suggest. But the Indian stood firm to make the grade.
Srikanth leaps to career-high fourth in rankings
New Delhi: Continuing his upward trend, India’s leading male shuttler Kidambi Srikanth jumped two places to take a career-high fourth position in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Thursday. With this move, the 21-year-old, became only the third Indian to break into the men’s singles top-five rankings. Legendary Praksh Padukone (No.1) and Pulella Gopichand (No.4) had earlier been in the top five. At the end of 2013, he was ranked 47th in the world.
