Centre decides to close down Forestry based livelihood centre
Agartala:The Centre has decided to close down the forestry-based livelihood centre in Agartala, which set up under Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE). The left front government has become vocal against the decision of the Centre and considers this as a move to block development of the state to create unrest. The decision of closure of the centre has caused public protest in the tribal villages in West Tripura. Minister for Forest and Rural Development Naresh Jamatia said here today that Centre for Forest Based Livelihood and Extension under ICFRE has been working since 2012 in the state as a model of cooperation in extension activities but recently ICFRE Secretary has issued abrupt closure of the centre.”It was established to provide scientific support to the forest dwelling tribal people of the state for better livelihood management and in past two years it has appeared to be an excellent model in the country but closure notice has been served suddenly without any consultation with the state,” Mr Jamatia complained. He however, pointed out that the centre has already created 50 bamboo nurseries and better field management of Arjun flower and post-harvest value addition of it at community level, which will be affected adversely if it is close.(UNI)
