Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has hailed Aamir Khan-starrer PK as a clever film by ‘bravest filmmaker’ Rajkumar Hirani, who has handled an issue as sensitive as religion with a dash of humour.
PK, which is doing well at the box office, has been getting mixed reactions from audiences for its content. While some have slammed it, saying it mocks Hindu traditions, a lot of people have called it the best film of 2014.
Talking about people who raise such issues, Kashyap, who often runs into debates regarding his own movies, said: “Anybody who is shown the mirror will always feel offended.
“But the amazing thing about the film is that it is so clever. Clearly, it has done so well that anybody who stands up and says, “This film offends me”, it shows them that the film was right,” he added.
Hence, Kashyap is all praise for Hirani and says he has been daring to take a subject like religion, god and godmen in PK – with a pinch of humour.
“Raju and everybody (Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Aamir Khan) are bravest filmmakers because they went on and took something on hands that we all are afraid of taking. He has done it with such good humour and and fun that it is reaching out to who it should reach out to,” he added. The maker of films like Black Friday, Gulaal and Gangs of Wasseypur, Kashyap’s own film Ugly finally released Friday. The movie had released for a long time as the filmmaker had challenged the use of anti-tobacco disclaimers in films. He feels it’s high time people stop getting offended every now and then about a film’s content.
“It’s high time that we stop getting so offended all the time…our offence being politically motivated. Let things be (as they are)…allow every kind of debate and dissent to exist within our society,” Kashyap said. (IANS)
