Bodies of three drowned students yet to be traced
Kohima:The search operation to retrieve the bodies of three students from Khonoma village, including two minor girls, who drowned in a deep frozen lake at the Sanctuary Fall in western Dzukou valley under Kohima district turned futile for the third day on Sunday, Khonoma village sources said. Sources said the three along with their friends had gone for a picnic on December 26 at the Sanctuary Fall in western Dzukou valley under Kohima district. Two of them managed to come out while one of them was pulled out by friends, but three others sunk in the lake drowned after much struggle, the sources said adding the submerged bodies remained untraced in the 80 feet long, 60 feet wide lake with a depth of 35 feet. The search operation today was conducted by a Disaster Management team from Guwahati, but they were unable to trace the bodies. The three deceased were school students and have been identified as Rokosietso Mor, class XII, his younger sister Ketourovino Mor, class IX and Mhiesikhono Viyie, also a class IX student. (PTI)
Dimapur dist admin appeals to lift LPG dealers’ stir
Kohima:Dimapur district administration and police have condemned the ‘cowardly act’ of hurling crude bomb at the godown of a LPG Gas Agency at Darogapathar area allegedly by some unknown miscreants on December 22. In an official statement Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Wezope Kenye said the district administration and police assured the LPG Gas Agency that the law enforcing agencies of the district would take necessary steps in apprehending the culprits and book them as per the provision of law. The business community of Dimapur has also appealed to the Dimapur LPG dealers association to lift the indefinite closure as announced by the association December 23, saying this would greatly affect the consumers of the district. Meanwhile, the Dimapur police have arrested one person yesterday with regard to the bombing of a gas agency at Darogapathar on the night of December 22.The Dimapur police PRO informed in a statement that after initial investigation, one prime accused, a cadre of NSCN (K) in the rank of Capt. was arrested and remanded to police custody. A case has been registered at Dimapur East police station for further investigation. (UNI)
All check gates of Itanagar sealed
Itanagar:All check-gates of the state capital have been sealed following apprehension of possible infiltration by miscreants. Besides, intensive patrolling and checking is being carried out in the state capital, an official release said. The capital administration has appealed to the people to cooperate with police and the magistrate on duty while checking vehicles or any other locations. In case any unclaimed bag or suspected material is noticed at any place, nearest police station should be informed, the release said and appealed that no strangers should be harboured or employed without prior police verification. Nagaland BJP expels one member for 6 years
Kohima: The Nagaland unit of BJP has expelled member Vekho Swuro, who failed to reply to a show cause notice served to him.In a statement issued by BJP Nagaland State Unit Office, Secretary Lachit Kachari informed that the party’s state Unit office-bearers had a meeting yesterday at BJP’s Office at Dimapur and resolved to expel Mr Swuro from the party for a period of six years, since he failed to reply within the time stipulated to the Suspension Order served on him on November 20 this year. Meanwhile, the party also vehemently condemns the recent massacre of innocent civilian numbering 83 by the Bodo Militants at Kokrajhar in Assam. “Such an inhuman act has no place in the civilized Society. Further, the Party has inducted Kuduta Neinu as State Executive Member,” it said. (UNI)
Swamp deer relocated from Kaziranga to Manas
Guwahati: For the first time in India, a mass capture of Eastern swamp deer (Rucervus duvaucelii ranjitsinhi) for relocation unfolded in Kaziranga National Park since December nine last. Popularly known as Barasingha, the entire population of this sub-species of Eastern Swamp Deer is currently found only in Kaziranga. Nineteen Eastern swamp deer were captured in Kaziranga NP to be relocated to Manas National Park for augmentation. A team of experts from Assam Forest Department (AFD) , Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Guwahati Assam monitored the entire process that is part of the ongoing project supported by ONGC. The animals were released in a specially prepared boma in Manas which is secured by a two-line power fence installed over a bombax barrier to deter leopards from entering the enclosure Saturday.(UNI)
