SHILLONG: State Police has claimed that in-fighting in the GNLA has cost the outfit the life of one of its training commanders.

Police sources said that Keating Ch Momin alias Jackfruit was shot dead by GNLA cadres due to dispute in sharing loot money.

According to sources, the police were informed of the incident by some villagers.

The incident took place on December 26 and police sources said that the GNLA cadres who eliminated Jackfruit decamped with huge amount of cash stashed by him.

Jackfruit, the chief trainer of GNLA, was camping in a general camp where he was shot dead. The assassins also carried with them the slain trainer’s AK rifle and other weapons.

“Villagers on condition of anonymity have revealed that at least three GNLA cadres– Tapcheng from Gokul village, Matcheng and Dimseng– were involved in eliminating Jackfruit apparently due to his refusal to share looted money with them for Christmas,” police sources said.

This is the second incident in the last three years of a GNLA leader being shot dead by the cadres of the outfit following dispute over sharing of looted money.

The police are yet to identify the spot where the killing took place besides finding out the real names of the GNLA cadres who killed Jackfruit.

Meanwhile, family members of Jackfruit who hail from Bolkingre village refused to talk to the police on the matter.

If the family cooperates, police will recover the body,” police sources said.
