Khyndailad to be ‘no vehicle zone’ tonight

SHILLONG: In view of the ‘Midnight Festival’ being organized by the Department of Arts and Culture at Khyndailad on Wednesday, roads leading to the commercial centre have been declared ‘No Vehicle Zone’ from 8.00 PM on December 31.

The restriction has been imposed to ensure that no accidents take place in the area where the event is being held. The organizers are expecting thousands to turn up for the event.

East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that in view of the directive, vehicles going to Umsohsun will have to pass through Rhino Point via Butcher Road and exit at Grand Hotel Point. Meanwhile, vehicles coming from Iewduh and Umsohsun will go via Butcher Road to Rhino Point. Vehicles of residents of Jail Road and Police Bazar will be exempted from the directive.

Vehicles can be parked at MUDA parking lot opposite State Bank of India, Main Branch, Additional Secretariat parking lot opposite BSNL office, besides the stretch alongside All India Radio and MBOSE office.
