Boxing India gets name clearance from Sports Ministry
New Delhi: The Sports Ministry Friday cleared the National Boxing Federation of India’s name as ‘Boxing India’, a body recognised as a permanent member of the International Boxing Association (AIBA). The Ministry stated that the matter has been examined in detail and it has no objection to the registration of ‘Boxing India’ (BI). Commenting on the development, BI President Sandeep Jajodia said, “We are extremely thankful to the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports – Government of India for approving the registration of ‘Boxing India’. “The registration is a stepping stone in expediting the administrative formalities and streamlining the overall functioning and activities of Boxing India,” he said. BI Secretary General Jay Kowli said the federation is all set to hold its first Elite. (PTI)

Swapnil in joint lead at Grandmaster Chess
Chennai: GM norm holder Swapnil Dhopade shared the lead with GM Mozharov Mikhail of Russia with 5.5 points after the sixth round of the 7th Chennai International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament at Nehru Stadium here on Friday. Indian Railways star Swapnil held GM Marat Dzhumaev (Uzbekistan) to a hard fought 51-move draw. Russian GM Mikhail Mozharov (5.5) defeated Indian norm prospect CRG Krishna to join Swapnil in the lead. (PTI)
