THRO demands CCTV in police station
Agartala: Tripura Human Rights Organisation (THRO) on Saturday demanded installation of close circuit camera in all the police stations, alleging regular harassment of citizens while lodging FIR and custodial torture in the police. THRO general secretary and eminent lawyer Purusattam Roy Barman alleged that Tripura has regularly been witnessing violation of human rights. But since there is no Human Rights Commission, citizens were deprived of getting redressal. “Refusal and non-cooperation of police with the common people when they go to lodge FIR, harassment in and outside the police station, unfair means in investigation of serious cases by the police and alleged torture in police custody are almost a common phenomena in Tripura. Despite repeated appeals the government is not taking any action to plug it,” Mr Barman said. He alleged that as many as 32 genuine complaints have been reported last year but there was no visible action from the government. ‘For immediate and effective solution, it is urgently needed to install CC camera with provision of round-the-clock recording of each and every event, including voice of the police personnel in the police stations,’ Mr Barman added.(UNI)
