GHADC polls
SHILLONG: As the administration is getting ready to hold Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, political parties have started their ground work to woo voters in their favour.
Congress has already decided to field candidates in all the seats.
Informing this, MPCC working president Deborah Marak on Sunday said that her party was ready to face elections.
According to Marak, the party is confident of putting up a good performance in the election.
In December last year, the term of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) was extended by a month by the Meghalaya Government for the third time to complete the process of elections.
It is expected that the elections to the GHADC will be held in March this year
Reacting to a query if the finalization of peace pact would boost the chances of Congress in the elections since the pact has been finalized under the tenure of Congress-led MUA Government, she said that the Government was keen to push for the finalization of the agreement for the benefit of the people.
Elections to the GHADC had to be postponed in view of the peace pact which was signed in October earlier this year with two of the popular Garo militant outfits — ANVC and its splinter group ANVC-B.
