SHILLONG: West Jaintia Hills Police on Sunday arrested the “self-styled president” of the non-existent Meghalaya Rural Development Organisation, Eikihun Chullet from Jowai.

Chullet has allegedly duped 30 youths from West Jaintia Hills of over Rs 60 lakh after promising them jobs in the non-existent MRDO and even the prestigious Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

West Jaintia Hills SP, Herbert Lyngdoh said that Chullet had duped around 22 people from April-July 2014. The entire incident came to light after the victims staged a protest in front of the rented office of MRDO at Mihmyntdu Mookynphad, following non-payment of their salaries and issue of cheques that could never be encashed.

The youths had also briefed the media of their plight here on Saturday.

It may be mentioned that as many as five FIRs have been filed in the Jowai police station from December 30 to January 1 against Chullet and his organization.

Chullet, who claimed to be the president of the MRDO had issued fake appointment letters to the victims besides issuing them salary cheques which bounced.
