10 NDFB-S ultras held in connection with killing of Adivasis

Guwahati: Security forces have arrested ten NDFB-S militants in con-nection with DEcember 23 last killing of Adivasis villagers in Assam’s Kokar-jhar,Sonitpur and Chirang districts. Out of these, seven NDFB-S cadres were directly involved in the killing. The Army and police have maintained a sustained counter-insurgency opera-tion against the members of the militant group.
State Home Secretary L S Changson informed that two other NDFB-S cadres were arrested by West Bengalpolice from Alipurduar area on the basis of information provided by Assam police. Those arrested militants were being brought to Assam.
In a joint operation, Army and paramilitary forces arrested two NDFB-S cadres – Nakul Narzary and Raju Rabha – from Bomra under Jinjinia police station in Sonitpur district. Both the militants were directly involved in killing of Adivasi villagers near Biswanath Chariali.
Moreover, three NDFB-S cadres were arrested from Kokrajhar district, four from Baksa district and one from Chirang district by the security forces in con-nection with the recent violence that claimed lives
of 81 persons, mostly Adivasi villagers including women and children.
Security forces have recovered one AK 47 assault rifle, two magazines of AK-47 assault rifles, 50
rounds of ammunition and three grenades. Meanwhile, more panic-stricken Adivasi villagers have left relief camps for their homes in view of fat
improvement of law and order situation in affected areas, according to the IGP(law and order) S N Singh. The state govern-ment aims to persuade the relief camp inmates to return to their home by the forthcoming magh bihu (harvest festival) celebrated in the middle of this month.
