Nagaland hosts Special National Integration Camp of NCC

Kohima:A Special National Integration Camp, organised by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Headquarters of Kohima, North Eastern Region Directorate, got underway from January 3 at Patkai Christian College near Dimapur. According to a Defence release today, 500 cadets from 16 directorates from all over India besides, around 100 cadets from North East, 10 officers and 60 staff are expected to attend the camp, which would conclude on January 14. Brig M Sreekumar, Group Commander of the Group Headquarters in Kohima, would be the Camp Commandant. Overall there are six Special National Integration Camps conducted in far edges throughout the country to reach out to people in remotest part of the nation, at Port Blair (Andaman Islands), Lakshadweep Islands, Jaisalmer (Rajasthan), Leh and Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir), New Delhi and in the North East, at Nagaland. Kohima has been selected as a location to represent North East where cadets participate.This year Patkai Christian College at Chumukedima, Dimapur will be hosting the SNIC.(UNI)

AITF to urge govt to revamp art and culture dept

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Tribes’ Forum (AITF) has resolved to urge the state government to revamp the department of Art and Culture involving local tribal cultural experts from all the ethnic tribes of the state. The forum in its executive body meeting held yesterday at the proposed site of Nyishi Heritage village – Supu Namchee near Hoj which, was presided over by its chairman Bengia Tolum also resolved that steps would be taken by other communities for establishment of Community Heritage villages of their respective tribes which shall be of immense importance for the research scholars of the tribal arts and culture besides being a tourist hub, a press release said here today. “It will be the endeavour of the AITF to establish-Arunachal Heritage village representing all the ethnic tribes of the state which will serve as the vehicle of Pan Arunachal Agenda,” the meeting resolved. Similarly, Joint Action Committee on Boundary Affairs (JACBA) under the umbrella of the AITF would take-up with the government for re-vitalizing the department of Boarder Affairs on the line of earlier resolutions. It was also decided that coinciding its 6th Foundation Day, the next General Conference of AITF would be conducted at Itanagar by pooling resources from all community based organisations (CBOs). Arunachal Rajya Sabha MP adopts model village

Itanagar: Rajya Sabha member Mukut Mithi has adopted Mayu-II gram panchayat segment in Roing assembly constituency as a model panchayat segment (village) under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana Scheme. As per the scheme, each MP will adopt a village and nurture it under his/her guidance to develop it into a model village in terms of health, cleanliness, greenery and cordiality to serve as demonstration villages for the surrounding areas to learn and replicate these efforts. DC Shiv Kumar along with M Dirchi, District Planning Officer and heads of various line departments accompany him visited the village yesterday and interact with the panchayat members and villagers at Rekoh, Keraah villages, an official communiqué informed. The DC informed that the base line survey of the adopted gram panchayat segment would be conducted within this week. Dirchi highlighted the villagers about the SAGY scheme and asked for their cooperation and participation for successful implementation of the scheme in the village, the communiqué added. (PTI)

Speaker appeals to media to highlight positive news

Imphal:Manipur Assembly Speaker Th Lokeshore on Tuesday highlighted the importance of publishing and broadcasting positive news.Speaking as a chief guest during the 40th foundation day observation of Manipur Press Club here, the Speaker said a person’s entire day could be spent in a bad mood after reading or hearing news of crime or some bad incident. Coverage of positive news in the opening bulletin or in the front page can really make the day of any person, he said. ‘Press Club foundation day should be treated as the foundation day of all the people as it is the place where any individual or organisation can pour out their woes or announce major achievements,’ he added. ‘We should work in such a manner that the future generation will be grateful to the present generation,’ he said. The Speaker commended the work of the founding members of the Press Club who were present during the function. Kh Ratan, Minister Works, appealed to the journalists to continue working in a free and fair manner. W Shamjai, president of All Manipur Working Journalists Union, said the Union was taking up welfare measures for the working journalists. (UNI)
