SHILLONG: Expressing concern over the deduction of Rs 17 crore from the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) phase-III for non-compliance of the reforms as recommended by the Centre, UDP legislator Jemino Mawthoh said that the loss of funds will further delay the project.”We were anticipating that the project will be complete by March 2015. But now it is certain that it will be delayed further,” Mawthoh said in a statement issued here on Friday.

The UDP legislator also came down heavily on the PHE department which according to sources is likely to seek extension from the State Government for completion of the project. Mawthoh recalled that in the meeting with the Rangbah Shnong of Nongthymmai Dorbar Pyllun, the PHE officials had assured that they will try to complete the project by March this year.Stating that the department could not simply blame the headmen for the delay in the project, the UDP legislator also sought to know the reason for the deduction of Rs 17 crore from the project. He also questioned as to why the Urban Affairs Minister had to make a statement in this regard instead of the PHE Minister. The legislator also asked the PHE department to come out with a clear picture on the current status of the project.
