DCs of border districts of M’laya, B’desh to meet on Monday

SHILLONG: A two-day bilateral meeting between the deputy commissioners of the border districts of Meghalaya and Bangladesh will begin here on Monday.
Sources informed that the deputy commissioners of six border districts of Bangladesh – Netrokona, Sunamganj, Sherpur, Mymensing, Sylhet and Kurigram – and all the districts of Meghalaya sharing international border with Bangladesh will participate in the meeting.
Senior BSF and BGB officials, besides SPs from the border districts would also attend the meeting.
It was informed that the issue of border fencing would be given top priority during the meeting with both sides slated to work out a strategy to clear the bottlenecks for early completion of the Indo-Bangla border fencing work in the Meghalaya sector.
It is expected that the Bangladeshi delegation would raise the issue of spilling over of anti-India insurgency activities into their territory while the Indian side would focus on smuggling and dacoity by Bangladeshi miscreants and abduction of people by Bangladeshi kidnappers, all perpetrated on Indian soil.
Decisions taken at the meeting would be drafted and submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs for necessary action.
