Party-less regional council issue: Lanong urges KHADC to call all party meet

SHILLONG: The UDP has urged KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum to convene an all party meeting to deliberate on the demand for the proposed party less regional council by the Grand Council of Chiefs (GCOC) Meghalaya.
Informing this here on Sunday, UDP working President Bindo Mathew Lanong said there needs to be clarity on the role and functions of the proposed regional council.
“We also need to have a clear understanding of the relevance of the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement, accepted by the Government of India on Dec 15, 1947, and Aug 17, 1948,” Lanong said.
The UDP working president also questioned whether the traditional heads who are already heading the various Hima and other traditional institutions will be ready to be part of this regional council.
He also pointed out that the issue of dual posts which will come up if the traditional heads agree to be the member of the regional council.
