Kohima: The Congress on Sunday appealed the Nagaland Governor to rescue people from the “clutches of paralysed governance and restore the principles of democracy, hijacked by the internal tussel of the ruling NPF party.
” The ongoing political imbroglio for change of leadership within the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) started with over 20 of its MLAs led by their leader G Kaito Aye revolting against the incumbent Chief Minister T R Zeliang on January 5.
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) appealed the Governor “To rescue the people of the state from the clutches of paralysed governance… to end this impasse… that will restore the principles of democracy which has been hijacked by the internal power struggle of the ruling NPF party.” The NPCC statement also reiterated the party’s stand that the ongoing political crisis in the state was purely an internal power struggle of NPF leaders.
“This is to dispel the notion of Congress tacitly supporting or aiding any group and put all speculations and assumptions to rest,” it said.
The NPCC also said though Congress was approached by both NPF groups to bail them out, yet the party maintained that the internal fight of NPF can’t change the corrupt and tainted image of NPF leaders who have destroyed the state in every sphere of governance during the past 12 years. (PTI)
