Guwahati: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said the Government of India and state government would never talk to any terror group which had indulged in violence and killed innocent people while calling upon the youth of the country to stand up against violence and terror threat.
Addressing the valedictory function of the 19th National Youth Festival held in Guwahati, Rajnath referred to the recent killing of over 70 poor and hapless Advasis by NDFB-S terror group in Assam and said youth of the country must condemn and raise their voice against such heinous crime against humanity.
“From now on wards the Government of India and the state governments will not talk to any group which has committed violence and killing of innocent people,” Rajnath said.
He said the Northeast was not cut-off from the mainstream of India. “If Kashmir is the crown of India, Northeast its strong arms. If any force tries to do harm to India, these strong arms will teach a good lesson. Guwahati and Assam are not only gateway to the Northeast, but also the highway to connect Northeast with New Delhi,” the Home Minister said lauding the Union Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sarbnanda Sonowal for holding the 19th National Youth Festival in Guwahati.
Reminding the youth of the country of their in building the nation, Rajnath said, “It is a young India where 65 per cent of the population are below 35 years of age. Youth have to make India a super power. It was the youth of India who had secured freedom from the country from the colonial British rule. The country remembers the sacrifices of martyrs like Chandrasekhar Azad, Kanaklata Barua, Maniram Dewan, Kushal Konwar etc. who had laid down their lives for the freedom we are enjoying today.”
Remembering Swami Vivekananda on his 152nd birth anniversary today, observed as the National Youth Day, Rajnath said, “First global youth from India was Swami Vive-kananda who had attracted the attention of the entire world because of his famous speech in Chicago world religious conclave. The youth of the country should follow his humane ideology of living for fellow human beings.”
He made an appeal to youth of the country to stay away from drugs as well as fight against the drugs menace. He said Govern-ment of India was exploring ways to solve unemploy-ment, the biggest problem facing the youth and the ‘Make In India’ concep-tualised by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be instrumental in opening job avenues.
Assam chief minister Taun Gogoi said that the participants in the youth festival would leave Assam as the ambas-sadors who would talk good about Assam and Guwahati because they have found how safe Assam is unlike the negative image of the state in the minds of people from outside.
