Gionee Smartphones is new Lajong sponsor

SHILLONG: Gionee Smartphones would be the marquee sponsor for Shillong Lajong FC this I-League season.
Informing this at a press conference here on Friday SLFC managing director Larsing Ming Sawyan said, “We are proud to tie-up with Gionee Smartphones and we believe the association will act as an impetus for the Club to achieve our objective of harnessing football talent in the North East.
The region is a reservoir of football talent and through our association we aim to continue identifying and developing budding footballers and leave an indelible mark in the football arena of the country.”
Gionee is one of the leading manufacturers of mobile phones.Gionee smartphones DGM Timir Baran Acharyya said, “We are extremely delighted to partner with Shillong Lajong FC which has emerged as a strong team in the I League over years… Football is one of the most popular sports in the North East and we wanted to connect with the youth through their passion and this association advocates our line of thought.”
He also said that following the partnership with Lajong, the company plans to develop apps for Gionee phone users which will keep them updated about the status of the matches and the side. Gionee phone users will also be able choose Lajong as a side and play games when they use the company’s game apps.
Lajong FC chairman, PD Sawyan also announced setting up of a football academy for the club on the outskirts of the city.
