SHILLONG: A crucial file pertaining to proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution has been gathering dust for nearly two years in the State Secretariat.
This has been revealed by UDP general secretary Allantry F Dkhar quoting the Commissioner and Secretary in charge District Council Affairs (DCA) department Jopthiaw Lyngdoh.
Dkhar was speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Opposition parties held here on Saturday.
According Lyngdoh the District Council Affairs department received the file on Friday last, Dkhar said.
The UDP general secretary said that according to the Commissioner and Secretary, the file has been lying with the Law department since August, 2013.
“I was informed by the officer that the file was sent to the Law department for its views on the proposed draft (Sixth Scheduled of the Constitution) Amendment Bill, 2012,” Dkhar said.
“It is really shocking that the matter is still pending even after nearly two years since the Centre had sought views of the State Government on this very important amendment Bill,” the UDP leader said, adding “This clearly reflects that the Government is not all serious on this crucial issue”.
When asked on the suggestions and views submitted by the three Autonomous Districts Councils (ADCs), Dkhar said he was not very sure what the State Government has done with the suggestions submitted by the district councils.
