Guwahati: A hardcore NDFB(S) militant and a major linkman of the outfit were apprehended with explosives during twin Army operations in Assam on Saturday, said defence sources.
In an operation based on tip-off by Gajraj Intelligence Unit, hardcore extremist Dipak Boro alias Dwantham was apprehended by the troops from Dongmari (Habibari) under Tamulpur Police Station in Baksa district, the sources said.
Two grenades and a large number of mobile phones and SIM cards were recovered from the ultra, they said. In the second raid, a major linkman of the NDFB(S) was apprehended with detonators at Mirza (Palasbari) near Guwahati based on specific intelligence provided by Eastern Command Military Intelligence, Guwahati, the sources said.
The troops of the Red Horn Division apprehended the linkman identified as Dev Mondal, who during initial questioning revealed that he had taken weapons training in Baksa in 2012 and had been actively involved in kidnappings, extortion and supplying of weapons to NDFB(S), they said.
Mondal had confessed to having links with top leadership of the militant outfit that killed 81 people on December 23 last in Assam.
He also confessed that his main job was to identify and track potential targets for kidnappings.
Two detonators, NDFB(S) demand notes and foreign currencies were found in his possession, the sources added. (PTI)
