Claims its authority not recognized by A’king Nokma

TURA: Former chairman of the ANVC (B), Bernard N Marak (Rimpu) has challenged the recent statement of the Council of Nokmas that a Nokma cannot be appointed for Tura Town.
In a statement issued here on Sunday the former militant chief claimed that the authority of the Council of Nokmas was recognized neither by the Danakgre A’king Nokma nor by the GHADC and demanded to know on what capacity the Council was opposing his appointment as the Nokma of Tura Town.
“Their opposition to the decision of the A’king Nokma needs clarification. They have no right to object and interfere in the decisions of the A’king Nokma,” Rimpu said.
He questioned whether the Council had the consent and approval of the A’king Nokma to function in the jurisdiction of the Danakgre A’king and asked it to produce a document of approval to run an office, one which allows them to own a land in Danakgre A’king as well as to provide documented proof that the power of the Nokma cannot be extended to the town area.
“Appointment of the Town Nokma is approved and sealed by the authority of the A’king Nokma. All elements (including self styled Nokmas), who are running an office in the a’king area without the knowledge, consent and approval of the A’king Nokma are hereby asked to cooperate with the Town Nokma for smooth administration in the area,” he said. Claiming that the decisions were made aiming at facilitating the provisions of the proposed amendments to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, Marak has requested for cooperation from all residents within the Danakgre A’king.
