26 militants arrested in a day with arms

Guwahati: Twenty-six tribal insurgent including 18 belonging to the NDFB-S accused of massacre of Adivasi villagers, were arrested by security forces of Assam on Monday serving lethal blow to the militant groups.
Based on a specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by Army Unit of Red Horns Division stationed at Udalguri, Police and NIA, along the forested area of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border which resulted in the capture of dreaded terrorist, Bikunas Narzary alias Birlangbai with another four hardcore terrorists namely, Bidai Singh Narzary alias Bugdaw,  Lohit Basumatry alias B Ferkw, N Araibaw alias Aijak Narzary and Dura Singh Brahma alias B Khamshaw, according to a Defenve source here.
The forces also recovered one AK 56 rifle with magazine, one 9mm Pistol (foreign -made) with holster, twenty five 7.62mm live rounds, 54 rounds of live 9mm ammunition and one hand grenade.
The apprehension of Bikunas Narzary is construed as a big blow to the NDFB (S), as he is the self-styled commanding officer of 13th Battalion of NDFB (S).
Eleven other its cadres of the NDFB-S were apprehended in a joint operation by the Army in another operation carried out on Monday in Panbari Forest area of Chirang District.
A large quantity of arms and ammunition to including two pistols, two improvised explosive devices and nine detonators were recovered from the cadres.
During the operation important cadres like Deven Goyari an, IED expert for NDFB (S) who made an unsuccessful attempt to plant IED against Army in December, 2014.
Raton Bengali who was involved in providing information and other assistance to the terrorist organisation during Labdanguri carnage and Parkash Narzary alias Gahen a locally trained cadre who was active since 2012 were apprehended.
In another operation, the Army arrested self-styled sergeant Bimal Boro alias Khwobla, platoon Commander NDFB(S) in Nalbari) at Antaibari under Tamulpur Police Station Police Station in Baksa district in a joint operation with police.
Another NDFB(S) terrorist, Birsing Basumatary was arrested in Guwahati city by the Army and CRPF personnel .
The militant was suspected to enter the city to carry out terror strike before Republic Day.
In a joint operation, Army and police apprehended eight suspected Karbi Land People’s Front (KLPF) cadres in Gandhipur of East Karbi Anglong district in the early hours of Monday.
The apprehended terrorists were identified as Biren Ingti, Mohan Terang, Andres Teron, Bizu Teron, John Teron, Babu Teron, Rakesh Ingti and Rup Singh.
A huge quantity of arms and ammunition were also recovered from the terrorists including three pistols, several grenades and ammunition of different weapons.
After the National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit carried out the December 23 attack, the police and army have been carrying out operations in inaccessible forest areas of Kokrajhar and Chirang districts.
On January 17 a hardcore militant and a major linkman were apprehended with explosives during two army operations.
Hardcore extremist Dipak Boro alias Dwantham was nabbed from Dongmari (Habibari) in Baksa district, while a major linkman was nabbed with detonators at Mirza (Palasbari) near Guwahati.
On the same day a large quantity of arms and ammunition used by the NDFB(S) were recovered from forests along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border by a joint team of Army, Assam Police and NIA.
On January 12, nine hardcore insurgents, including its ‘chief recruiting officer’ and Belsiri ‘platoon commander’ were arrested along with arms and ammunition in Chirang district and eight others apprehended the next day in Amteka jungle area along the Indo-Bhutan border, the sources said.
On January 10 altogether 12 ultras, including a ‘deputy commandant’ and its central council member, were apprehended during a joint operation by police, SSB and CRPF in Manas Reserve Forest area in Chirang district.
On the same day another NDFB-S ‘platoon commander’ Jailing alias Jagat Basumatary carrying a reward of Rs five lakh on his head for his alleged ‘direct involvement’ in the December 23 killing at Pakhriguri area of Kokrajhar district, was killed in an encounter with police and SSB near Khousibazar in the district.
On January 8, seven militants including its Kokrajhar platoon ‘second-in-command’ Mithinga and Khuren along with their four associates were arrested from Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district for their alleged direct involvement in the killings, the sources said.
Two more cadre of NDFB(S) Kokrajhar platoon – Genda Basumatary and Bullet – were arrested in Kolabari area on the same day.
On January 7 an NDFB-S ultra – Jagadish Basumatary – was arrested from Chirang district.
On January 6, eight kg explosives were recovered from two NDFB(S) militants and two arms dealers were arrested with weapons in Kokrajhar district, they added. (With inputs from PTI)
