Villager rescues 8-ft-long python in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: Acting as a crusader to protect wildlife from extinction, one person identified as Thone Raja rescued a python from a forest located at Mawsyntai in Ri Bhoi District on Saturday last and handed over the reptile to the Wildlife Department, Nongpoh Range, on Monday. Forester Wanphai Lyngdoh informed The Shillong Times that the department, after receiving information from one BR Blah that a python had been rescued by Thone Raja of Mawsyntai village, took the python in their custody on Monday.
The python is around eight foot long and weighs 10 kg.
Lyngdoh also informed that the department appreciated Thone Raja’s action in rescuing the python. He also informed that the department will release the python in Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary on Tuesday.
