27 swineflu cases detected in Telangana
Hyderabad:As many as 27 people have tested positive for the H1N1 virus in Telangana and are presently undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Hospital here while 35 cases are under observation for suspected influenza. Dr K Narasimhulu, coordinator for swineflu at Gandhi Hospital, said they have received four fresh cases of swineflu on Tuesday from various private hospitals. “Till on Monday, we had 23 patients undergoing treatment in our hospital. We have received four more cases today. At the same time, 35 suspected cases including 10 children are under observation,” Narasimhulu said. So far, seven persons have succumbed to the deadly disease in Telangana since January 1 this year, the official said. Health officials here maintained that swineflu disease this year is not as virulent as it was in 2009 but high risk groups (those suffering from different serious ailments and low immunity) need to remain alert. In 2014, 88 cases of swineflu were reported in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Last year, 11 people reportedly died of the disease. (PTI)
Blast in chemical company; one dead
Ahmedabad:One worker was killed while 11 others were injured, three of them seriously when a chemical barrel exploded in a firm in Ankleshwar GIDC area of Bharuch district in Gujarat, police said on Tuesday. According to Ankleshwar-GIDC police, a barrel containing ‘4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid’ exploded late last night when some of the labourers were weighing barrels of this chemical in the manufacturing unit of Survival Technologies Pvt Ltd, located in GIDC area. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Zahid Hussain (19), who used to work and live at the factory, said police. Those who are grievously injured are Lalan Paswan, Mitesh Vasani and Prakash Paswan. “All of them are labourers working in that factory. When they were weighing the chemicals on an electronic scale on Monday night, one of the drums containing 4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid suddenly exploded due to short circuit in the scale,” said Assistant Sub Inspector of Ankleshwar GIDC Paresh Hasoti.(PTI)
Three girls go missing from NGO in Uttar Pradesh
Mathura: Three girls have allegedly gone missing from an NGO here, police said on Tuesday. Sisters Sita (18) and Rita (17) from Dhaulpur in Rajasthan and 15-year-old Ritu from Modinipur in West Bengal went missing from Ashray Sadan NGO situated near Taras temple in Vrindavan on Sunday, Deputy Superintendent Anil Yadav said. The incident came to light when the girls were found missing while taking attendance in the ashram, he said. “A love letter and a letter from Sita stating that she should not be searched as she is going on her own has been found,” Yadav said. The letter was written in Bengali and penned by Datapanni, Ritu’ brother. Her father is working with R K Mission Ashram Vrindaban, he said. A complaint was filed by the councillor Sunita Chaturvedi in the case on Monday, police said. We have informed Ritu’s father and her brother is being interrogated, they added.(PTI)
20 injured in bus-truck collision in MP
Betul (MP):As many as 20 persons were injured on Tuesday when the bus in which they were travelling collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district, police said. The accident took place when the bus enroute to Betul from Maharashtra’s Paratwada town rammed into a truck head on near Mahadgaon village on Betul-Indore national highway, around 10 kms from the district headquarters, Betul Kotwali police station in-charge Pankaj Tyagi said. All injured passengers were admitted to the district hospital and the condition of 16 persons is stated to be critical, he added. Due to strong impact of the collision almost all seats of the bus uprooted, causing serious injuries to the occupants, Tyagi said. Soon after being alerted, senior police officials reached the spot and pressed 108 ambulance into service. A case has been registered in this regard and further probe is on, police added. (PTI)
Wanted Maoist couple surrenders
Hyderabad:A Maoist couple allegedly involved in several offences in Chhattisgarh surrendered before police in Telangana’s Warangal district today, police said. B Bhikshapathi, a divisional committee member involved in several offences and carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakhs on his head, surrendered along with his wife P Rukmini before Warangal Urban Superintendent of Police A K Jha. Rukmini was carrying reward of Rs one lakh, Jha said. Bhikshapathi joined the Naxal movement in 2001. He was underground in the initial period in Warangal before being involved in various offences in different districts of Chattisgarh, including attack on police stations, killing of policemen and CRPF personnel and theft of weapons, he said. The surrendered rebel belongs to Warangal district while his wife is a native of Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, the police officer added. (PTI)
