Daw elected Dolloi ofNongjngi Elaka

JOWAI: Copiusness Daw of Lumtrep, Nongjngi was elected the new Dolloi of Nongjngi Elaka in West Jaintia Hills on Friday.
Daw secured 1715 votes to emerge winner in the polls which had four candidates in fray. His nearest contender was ex- MDC Kitton Samati who secured 1278 votes. Another candidate, Prospol Samati got 1222 votes while Paitbha Tahiah could only manage 27 votes.
Interestingly, Daw’s candidature had evoked strong protest from a section of the residents of Nongjngi last year.
The Dolloi election was conducted to fill the spot left vacant by the death of former Dolloi of the Elaka, Lyngngong Snieh in August 2013. He had held the post since 1964.
