SHILLONG: Traditional chiefs of villages under Hima Khyrim have resolved to appeal against the recent ruling of the High Court of Meghalaya questioning the role of the Rangbah Shnong.
The traditional chiefs took the decision during a meeting convened by the Syiem of Hima Khyrim at his office at Smit on Friday.
“Left with no option we have resolved to file an appeal before the Division Bench of the High Court to seek relief pending necessary legislation by the government and the district councils to specify on the power and functions of the traditional chiefs,” the chiefs said in statement.
The meeting also resolved to urge the State government and the KHADC to urgently legislate and codify the customary rules, laws, and regulations as per the traditional, customary and social practices of Hima Khyrim.
“We have also decided to urge the KHADC and the State government to suitably amend the anomalies in the proposed Village Administration Bill, 2014, so that it is legislated as per the customary traditions under Hima Khyrim Syiemship,” they added.
