Traditional heads to appeal to HC

SHILLONG: Following a meeting in Smit, traditional heads have resolved to file an appeal before the Division Bench of the High Court to seek relief in view of the recent observations of the Single bench of the Meghalaya High Court on traditional institutions pending necessary legislation by the Government and the District Councils for the respective Hima.
The meeting was convened by Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Balajied Sing Syiem and attended by hundreds of Rangbah Shnong (village chiefs), and provincial chiefs from the Dorbar Raid, including village elders, Myntri, Lyngdoh, Syiem Raid, and others.
The meeting also resolved to urge the State Government and the KHADC to urgently legislate and codify the customary laws as per the tradition, customary and social practice under Hima Khyrim.
The meeting further resolved to urge the KHADC and the State Government to suitably amend the anomalies in the proposed Village Administration Bill 2014, so that it is legislated as per the customary traditions under Hima Khyrim Syiemship.
