TMC MLA’s son found dead on rail track in Bihar

Katihar:Debasish Das, son of Trinamool Congress MLA Kasturi Das and brother-in-law of the Kolkata Mayor, was on sunday found dead under mysterious circumstances at Barsoi railway station here, an official said. The GRP men found his body lying on the railway track near outer signal of platform number two of Barsoi railway station, Superintendent of Police, Railway, Jitendra Mishra said. It was not immediately clear whether the 45 year-old’s death was an accident or murder, he said. Das could have fallen down from a Kolkata-bound train late last night and injury marks were found on his head, he said. The victim’s mother Kasturi Das is an MLA from Maheshtala assembly constituency in WB. (PTI)

Murder accused attempts suicide in Naini prison

Allahabad:An undertrial, accused of murdering a Hindu priest on Tuesday, tried to hang himself on the premises of Naini Central Jail here. Rajesh went to the toilet last night and tried to hang himself with a muffler which, however, snapped and he fell injuring himself, said Ambrish Gaur, Superintendent of the prison situated on the outskirts of the city. He was rushed to a hospital in the city and later brought back, the officer said, adding that one more case under Section 309 of the IPC (punishment for attempted suicide) was slapped against Rajesh. He was arrested from Delhi earlier this week for the murder of Ratneshwarananda who was hacked to death on Tuesday inside a camp set up by Manav Samaj Utthan Samiti near the holy Sangam here. (PTI)

1 student dies, 13 sick of suffocation

Jamshedpur:One student died and 13 others were admitted to a hospital on Sunday after they fell unconscious due to suffocation in Barkadal Upgraded school during Saraswati Puja at Rajnagar in Seraikela-Kharswan district. “This incident happened after 14 students went to sleep in a room after Saraswati puja in the school, keeping the generator on last night,” District Education Officer, Hari Shankar Ram said. As all the doors and windows were closed, the students fell unconscious due to suffocation, he said adding that the door was broken open to bring out the students early this morning. They were rushed to M G M Hospital in Jamshdpur immediately in unconscious state but Shankar Besra died in the hospital, he said. The 13 other students were admitted to Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur, Ram said adding that they were all students of class-VIII and class-IX. (PTI)

2 Maoist supporters held in C’garh

Raipur:Two suspected Naxal supporters were arrested and a weapon and explosives allegedly seized from them in Chhattisgarh’s Gariyaband district. The two men – Shivlal Yadav (35) and Harish Chandra Chandrakar (38) – were apprehended from Bade Gobra village under Mainpur police station limits on Saturday evening, Gariyaband Additional Superintendent of Police L David told PTI on Sunday. Acting on specific inputs about the movement of a group of CPI (Maoist) cadres at Bade Gobra village, located around 100 kms from the state capital, a joint squad of CRPF and local police was mobilised towards the region. After encircling the village, the security forces raided Shivlal’s house and recovered a muzzle loading gun, about 150 gm of explosives, small and  a couple of iron rods, torch and batteries, the ASP said.(PTI)
