National Voters’ Day observed across State

SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the country, the National Voters’ Day was observed in various district headquarters of the State on Sunday.
In Shillong, the Election Department in collaboration with the Meghalaya Athletic Association conducted a “Run for Democracy, 2015” which was followed by an official function at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Sunday.While addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Additional Chief Secretary B K Dev Varma urged the eligible citizens to come forward and register their names in the electoral roll.
Chief Electoral Officer, PK Naik highlighted the pro-active role of the Election Commission and its tireless effort to create awareness for motivating voters. During the programme, the Chief Guest also administered the National Voter’s Pledge.
A similar programme was also organized by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills.
During the programme, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal distributed EPICs to the newly enrolled voters.
Meanwhile, the District Administration of South West Khasi Hills, also organized a function to celebrate the National Voters’ Day on Sunday. The programme was attended by a large gathering which comprised of government officials, representative of various NGOs, local elders and the youths.

The National Voters’ Day was also celebrated in Nongstoin on Sunday. Heads of various government departments, senior citizens, students and new voters attended the function. EPICs and badges were distributed to newly enrolled voters on the occasion.
