Headmistress suspended as student delivers baby in hostel
Berhampur (Odisha):A Class X girl student delivered a baby in a residential school hostel in Kandhamal district following which its headmistress was suspended and two contractual teachers disengaged for alleged negligence, officials said on Wednesday. The Class X student of the school had delivered a baby in the hostel on Friday night, they said. Following the incident, the Kandhamal district administration suspended headmistress of Lingagada Residential Girls High School Ashalata Pati and disengaged contractual teachers, Sasmita Parida and Namita Pradhan on Tuesday, they said. An auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) S B Pradhan, responsible for the health care of the students, was also removed. Kandhamal district Collector, N Thirumala Naik who visited the school on Saturday said, “How could the ANM and teachers not know about the health condition of the girl?. This is nothing but negligence on the part of the school authorities.(PTI)
Six killed in Meerut over property dispute
Meerut:Property dispute might be the motive behind the killings of six persons, three of them minors, whose bodies were found with their throats slit here, police said on Wednesday. The bodies of 40-year-old Rukhsana and a man identified as Saad were found in Partapur area here while her four children identified as Rimsa (21) along with a 12-year-old boy and two children aged 8 were found dead in a house with their throats slit in Lisarhi area on Tuesday, SP (City) Om Prakash said. In a complaint filed by Rukhsana’s brother Soni, he alleged that all of them were killed by Saqib, Rukhsana’s brother-in-law. As per the premilinary investigation, dispute over property worth crores seems to be the motive behind the killings, the SP said. Currently, Rukhsana’s husband Naved alias Raju is lodged in Muzaffarnagar jail for attempting to murder his brother Saqib following which he was imprisoned, he said. Subsequently, the woman and her children were thrown out the house. She was then helped by her friend Saad, who also assisted her and Naved over the property dispute. (PTI)
Man kills wife, paramour in Rajasthan
Jaipur:Enraged over his wife’s illicit relationship, a man allegedly axed his wife and her paramour to death while injuring his 9-year-old son at Reenguns town in Sikar district, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Tuesday in the accused’s rented accomodation where his wife, Hemlata Jatav (35), and Diwailal (36) were sleeping, according to an FIR lodged in the connection. According to the police, a fight broke out among the three. The accused Roop Singh Jatav, who fled after the incident to Madhya Pradesh, was nabbed late on Tuesday night and brought to Reengus, they said. The two deceased and Roop Singh were labourers in a factory. Diwailal and the couple lived separately in rented rooms in ward number 17, police said, adding, his son Nitin who was present at the spot and had sustained head injury in the attack, was referred to Jaipur-based SMS hospita. RJD MLA’s car attacked, legislator unharmed
Madhepura:RJD MLA from Madhepura Chandrashekhar survived an attack after some people stoned his vehicle near a village under Ghelar police station area in Bihar’s Madhepura district, a police officer said on Wednesday. Chandrashekhar was travel-ling in a four-wheeler to some destination of his native district when some people attacked the vehicle with lathis and stones at Jhitkiya village late last night, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kailash Prasad said. The RJD MLA and his driver ran away to a safe place nearby and were unscathed, he said. Chandrashekhar later reached Ghelar police station and lodged an FIR. He had named Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Ramkumar Yadav and some others for making bid on his life, the DSP said. However, the identity of the attackers was not officially confirmed, the officer said. (PTI)
Congress condemns forcible eviction of rape victim
Jaipur:Congress on Wednesday condemned the forcible eviction of a rape victim in Jalore who was on a hunger strike demanding action against the accused, who is also reported to be her relative, in a case last year. Rajasthan Congress President Sachin Pilot in a statement said the victim was demanding justice but she got no relief and instead she was forcibly taken from there by the policemen which was condemnable. He said the party would launch an agitation if the accused, is not arrested at the earliest by the police. The married woman, aged around 25 years, was on strike in front of sub-divisional officer’s officers in Sanchor town when she was forcibly taken to a hospital by police team on Monday. Pilot alleged that crimes against woman have risen in the state during BJP rule and females were no longer safe even in the rule of a woman chief minister. (PTI)
