Two-minute silence

The Under Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya, General Administration (A) Department, has informed that two-minute silence will be observed in the entire State on January 30 at 11 am in memory of those who laid down their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom. Silence should be observed and work and movement should be stopped for two minutes throughout the State. The commencement and termination of silence should be indicated to the citizens by sounding the siren or any other means available.

Union Minister for State for Roads Transport & Highways P Radhakrishnan will visit Meghalaya on Jan 29 and 30. He will address a press conference at Hotel Pinewood on Jan 29 at 3:30 pm.

Sec 144 CrPC

To deter miners from resuming mining in South West Khasi Hills District, the District Magistrate has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting any act of coal mining by any person or group of persons within the district without the necessary environmental clearance of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board. This order comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi District, has imposed Section 144 CrPC prohibiting any person, organization, etc., from indulging in the act of poisoning of rivers, streams or any other water bodies with the explicit or implicit intention to cause large scale destruction of aquatic life within the district. This order comes into force with immediate effect and will continue to remain so until further notice.

Competition

As part of the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight Celebration 2015, a Quiz competition followed by the valedictory function will be organized on January 30 at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, from 11 am.

Wanted

The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, has informed that one migrant labour named Prema (may not be real name) is wanted in connection with Shillong Sardar PS case. The accused has been absconding after committing the crime on April 15, 2014. Any person having knowledge of his whereabouts may contact Shillong Sardar PS Telephone No – 0364-2224400 or Fax No – 0364-2225675.

Inauguration

Dikkanchi D Shira, Chairperson, Meghalaya Resource Mobilization and Employment Generation Council, on Tuesday inaugurated the Multi Facility Centre and Sahara Memorial Secondary School at Gugrakandi, Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills District, in the presence of Abdus Saleh, Chairman, Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation.
