Govt extends merit list validity

SHILLONG: The State Government on Friday conceded to the demands of the agitating grade IV candidates who were on an indefinite hunger strike and decided to extend the validity of the merit list by another six months.
Members of the Association of Qualified Grade IV Association-2011, East Khasi Hills had gone on an indefinite hunger strike on Tuesday demanding extension of validity of their merit list.
Following the positive response of the Government, the association unanimously decided to call off the indefinite hunger strike on Friday night.
As per the official communiqué from Personnel department to East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal on Friday, the six months’ extension of the merit list would be effective from February 2 to September 2.
The current validity of the merit list was scheduled to end on January 31.
Speaking to newsmen, association general secretary Paskha Lyngdoh Thabah said that they welcomed the decision of the Government.
“We are all very happy with this extension, especially when only women qualified candidates are waiting for appointment,” Thabah said.
Thabah added that the Government should ensure that all the remaining 20 women candidates should get appointment during the six months’ extension period.
