Kohima: The Naga Hoho has expressed concern over Nagaland Governor P B Acharya’s move on Republic Day to address a gathering at Raj Bhavan in Hindi.
In a release, the Naga Hoho welcomed the promotion and propagation of Hindi through schools and other institutions. However, it found it ‘unreasonable that the Governor should address a distinguished non-Hindi speaking gathering in Hindi, fully knowing that the majority of them could not comprehend a single word of what was spoken.’
The Naga Hoho further expressed astonishment at the depiction of a Hindu Goddess on the official handout of the same function.
“It is very much out of place that the image was used in a non-religious official function in a Christian dominated state like Nagaland,” the Naga Hoho release said.
“The Nagas are not against Hindus or Hinduism, but we object to this very particular action of the Governor, which we feel conveys a wrong and controversial message in the state,” it stated.
The Naga Hoho urged the Governor to show ‘neutrality and sensitivity to the sentiments of the Naga public in future.’ (UNI)
