SHILLONG: The Fact Finding Team (FTT) constituted by the Opposition parties to study the State’s power scenario is scheduled to meet next week before finalizing its report.
Informing this here on Saturday, the FTT chairman Jemino Mawthoh said that the committee had already started to prepare the brief outline on the findings.
The committing visited several power projects including the ongoing projects, which are being implemented by the MeECL.
While clarifying that the Opposition parties have come together not with the intention to gain political mileage out of it, the FTT chairman said that it was the situation which had compelled them to work as one combined force.
“In our report we would like to come up with some innovative suggestions which can help in improving the power scenario in the State,” Mawthoh said.
“We have tried to understand the challenges being faced by the MeECL. We have also discussed the loopholes pertaining to distribution of power,” he said.
Referring to the recent meeting with the officials of the MeECL in the presence of Chief Secretary PBO Warjri, he said, “We were informed by the MeECL that the power scenario is expected to drastically improve in 2015 and 2016. Meghalaya may become power surplus state in the next two years”.
According to the FTT chairman, there has been a vast improvement in the functioning of the MeECL.
