SHILLONG: KHADC Executive Member and Mawlai MDC PT Sawkmie expressed surprise that the State government was silent on the ruling of the High Court of Meghalaya which barred the Rangbah Shnong from issuing NOCs.
“I feel that the State Government should have understood the sensitivity of the case and appealed against the ruling of the court,” Sawkmie stated in a statement on Monday.
“This is the first time since Meghalaya attained its Statehood that the Rangbah Shnongs were facing such a peculiar situation,” Sawkmie said.
Calling upon the Rangbah Shnongs to maintain calm and not to panic, he urged them to use their wisdom while discharging their duties especially in view of the court ruling.
“We are hopeful that the court will give its judgment taking into account the prevailing customary practices and tradition,” the Mawlai MDC said, while referring to the appeal by the KHADC against the court ruling.
