TURA: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA), Selsella Block, has demanded the regularization of services of SSA teachers in the State.
In its memorandum submitted to Block Mission Coordinator of Selsella, R Hajong, the Association informed that the services of SSA teachers in Meghalaya have not been regularized although they have been in service for many years.
Pointing out that services of SSA teachers in other states like Assam, Sikkim etc., were being regularized, it questioned why the same could not be done in Meghalaya.
Another demand of the Association included the enhancement of salary for SSA teachers. It pointed out that they were paid a paltry sum of Rs.1500 as salary in 2007, Rs.3000 in 2008 and Rs.6000 in 2010 and Rs.9900 for Upper Primary and Rs.9200 for Lower Primary sections since April 2013.
They pointed out that their salary amount was in huge contrast to their counterparts in Assam and Nagaland who were allegedly being paid Rs. 20,000 per month as salary.
The Association appealed to the concerned authority to increase their salary to make it equal to that of their counterparts in Assam and Nagaland.
Besides, the Association also demanded the revocation of the 4th teacher system as well as the appointment of additional teachers for SSA schools.
With regard to the 4th teacher system the Association felt that there was discrimination towards teachers belonging to the said category as there was no equality of salary between them and other regular teachers.
The Association also felt that there was an urgent need to increase the teaching staff in SSA schools. It urged the concerned authority to appoint more teachers in all SSA schools of Meghalaya so as to enable the implementation of innovative and learner-centric teaching-learning practices.
