Umling mayhem: No arrest yet

SHILLONG:  The Ri Bhoi police has found some clues into the Sunday’s incident in which hundreds of truckers transporting coals created mayhem at the Umling weigh bridge on National Highway 40 causing damages to government offices and also injuring two government servants.
Indicating this, the Ri Bhoi district police chief CVS Reddy on Monday said that the police so far has not been able to arrest anyone involved in the incident.
According to him, condition of two injured Government officials has improved.
Armed with iron rods, petrol bombs, stones and canes, over 100 truckers transporting coal attacked the Umling weigh bridge premises comprising of the weigh bridge counter, DMR and Sales Tax and the Transport office on Sunday evening causing damage to the government offices and leaving two persons — Enforcement Checker H Kharkongor (35) and Weight Bridge staff Baral Thangkhiew (35) —  injured The truckers allegedly took matters into their hands leading to the violent episode after having being asked to stay put near the weigh bridge for the past three days.
When contacted, Transport Commissioner and Controller Legal metrology IW Ingty  said that he has assessed the damages  and   the weighbridge would be fully operational from Tuesday.
It is learnt that security would also be provided in the weighbridge.
