FKJGP leader in police net over militant nexus
TURA: A joint co-ordination effort by police from two districts in Garo Hills has led to the arrest of a high ranking militant leader and seizure of explosives and a huge amount of cash amounting to Rs 15 lakh on Friday.
Police revealed that the general secretary of the A’chik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF), a breakaway faction of the GNLA, who also happened to be the general secretary of the FKJGP organization had been arrested and money and explosives were seized.
The arrest of the militant leader, identified as Simseng G Momin, took place at Rongram by West Garo Hills police on Friday after he fled to escape a raid on his home in Rongjeng by East Garo Hills police during the day in which the explosives and extortion money were found.
Rongjeng police raided Simseng’s house and found younger brother Rikpang G Momin (22) in possession of several camouflage uniforms which he reportedly confessed were meant for shipment to AMEF cadres. He was taken into custody.
“When we further searched the house and entered his elder brother Simseng’s room we found hidden inside explosives and detonators, and Rs 15 lakh along with some incriminating documents and a laptop,” said the district police chief Davis Nestell R Marak.
He added that Simseng is the general secretary of the Rongjeng unit of FKJGP.
“His younger brother revealed to us that elder sibling Simseng is a leader of FKJGP as well as the general secretary of AMEF,” Marak said.
“It is true that Simseng is FKJGP leader. We arrested him at Rongram while trying to enter Tura disguised as a passenger. He confessed to being the general secretary of both FKJGP and AMEF,” added Tura SP Mukesh Kr Singh.
Following the arrest of the younger brother and the subsequent recovery of explosives and money the AMEF militant leader had reportedly tried to flee the police dragnet and sought refuge with another AMEF militant based in Tura.
The AMEF leader was heading to Tura to meet up with another cadre when West Garo Hills police put up a vehicle checking point at Rongram, 15 kms from Tura, and intercepted his travel plans.
Another AMEF militant identified as Metronath Marak, residing in proper Chandmari, who was to give shelter to the AMEF leader was arrested
