SHILLONG: Reacting to a news report in The Shillong Times on Meghalaya’s medal-less run in the National Games so far, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs on Friday has clarified that out of four disciplines that the State is participating in, only the archery team has completed its events.
It may be mentioned that Meghalaya is participating in archery, judo, shooting and wushu events in the ongoing National Games being held in Kerala.
According to the Director of Sports and Youth Affairs department, even though the Meghalaya contingent has been sent under the auspices of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, the department has provided all possible help as requested by the MSOA to ensure that the athletes get the required support to perform at the national level.
“The Meghalaya State Olympic Association has selected the participants and chosen which sports to participate in,” the Director said.
He added that the officials who went along with the team were appointed by the respective national federations whose sports they represent and have nothing to do with the state team.
