13-month-old girl dies of fever; swine flu suspected

Kanpur:In a suspected case of swine flu, a 13-month-old girl suffering from fever has died, three days after another girl who was living in her neighbourhood died of the disease. Chief Medical Officer RP Yadav said the girl, Maya, died on Friday night at the Hallet Hospital. According to the doctors at the hospital the deceased was showing symptoms of swine flu, he said. The toddler’s culture report has been sent for examination to King George Medical College Lucknow, Yadav said, adding, until the results come back they cannot confirm if the she was suffering from the disease. According to health officials, Maya lived 200 metres away from the Juhi Lal Colony residence of Aapti, the two-and-a- half-year-old girl who had died of swine flu on Wednesday.(PTI)

6 killed in car-jeep collision in Patiala

Chandigarh:Six persons, including one child and two women, were killed and two others injured in a car-jeep collision in Patiala, police said on saturday. The accident took place last night at around 1 AM near village Chuppki when two couples along with their children were returning to their homes from Patiala to Samana in a car after celebrating their marriage anniversaries, police said. When they reached near village Chuppki, their car collided head-on with a jeep coming from an opposite direction, they said. The deceased have been identified as Gaurav (28), his wife Archana (26), Ankush (25), his wife Sandeep (23), one-year-old boy Ayam, and jeep driver Makhan Ram (32). (PTI)

Honour killing: Brother kills 18-year-old sister

Meerut:In a suspected case of honour killing, an 18-year-old girl was killed by her brother for having a relationship with her neighbour at the Kankerkheda police station area here, police said on saturday. Amit was arrested on Saturday for killing his sister Bharti, a class 11th student by slitting her throat as he was unhappy over her relationship with their neighbour, SP (City) Om Prakash said. The accused was arrested along with the weapon used in the crime after a complaint was filed by Babulal, father of the victim on Saturday, he said. The incident took placeon Friday night under Kankerkheda police station area when the victim went with her neighbour Rahul when her family was asleep, police said.(PTI)
