LONDON: West Bromwich Albion came from two goals behind to snatch a 2-2 draw against fellow strugglers Burnley in a Premier League relegation scrap on Sunday.
Ashley Barnes and Danny Ings provided the early spark at a wet and gloomy Turf Moor as they both scored first half headers to give Burnley a 2-0 lead.
Chris Brunt earned West Brom a lifeline towards the end of the first half when he nodded in from a corner and substitute Brown Ideye completed the comeback for Tony Pulis’s side in the second period when he powered in a header from Brunt’s corner.
West Brom are 15th in the table with 23 points from 24 matches, while Burnley are a point above the relegation zone in 17th with 21 points.
‘We started the game as if it was a Sunday morning game but the goal before half-time gave us the lift we needed,’ West Brom manager Pulis told reporters.
‘Without a question of doubt we need to get results, and you need to have the players together and playing as hard as we did in the second half and full credit to them.’
In the midtable battle at St James’ Park, Peter Crouch’s late equaliser earned Stoke City a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United and kept Mark Hughes’s side in the top 10.
Jack Colback, who was fortunate not to receive a second yellow card for a foul on Victor Moses just before getting on the scoresheet, fired a shot past Asmir Begovic from the edge of the area in the 74th minute.
Gabriel Obertan messed up a chance to double Newcastle’s lead and former England striker Crouch punished them in the 90th minute when he headed in Geoff Cameron’s cross.
Stoke remain 10th with 33 points, while Newcastle are two points behind in 11th spot.
Later on Sunday, fourth-placed Manchester United travel to West Ham United. (Reuters)
