Naxal commander, two accomplices arrested in J’khnd

Jamshedpur:An area commander of an ultra outfit and two of his accomplices were arrested from Porahat jungle under naxal-affected West Singhbhum district, a senior police officer on Sunday said. Acting on a tip-off, the security personnel acted swiftly and intercepted a vehicle during the search operation in Porahat jungle yesterday, Superintendent of Police, N K Singh said. The security personnel arrested Navin alias Upendra Paswan, who was then the Area Commander of Chatarapur in Palamau district of CPI (Maoists), and two other naxalites identified as Kanda Vishwakarma and Lofar Chaki, he said. Paswan had served 11-year jail term in connection with the killing of the Deputy SP, Chatarpur, D K Rai, in Palamau district. Rai was blown up in a blast in June 2002, he said, adding that Paswan was recently released from jail. The trio were travelling in the vehicle and were on their way to meet some naxals in Porahat jungle when they were arrested, Singh said. Two pistols, some live cartridges and the vehicle were seized by the security personnel, Singh said, adding that further interrogation is on. (PTI)

Driver from PoK arrested for carrying narcotics across LoC

Srinagar:Two persons, including a driver belonging to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir region, have been arrested for allegedly smuggling narcotic substance from across the Line of Control on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad trade route, police said on Sunday. “The driver – Anayat Hussain, a resident of Muzaffarabad, has been arrested following the recovery of narcotics substance on Friday,” said Suhail Mir, Superintendent of Police, Baramulla. Mir said the local trader Zahoor Ahmad Malla, who was to receive the consignment, has also been taken into custody. “A case under Section 8/21 of NDPS Act has been registered against the duo and the investigations are on,” he said. Authorities on Friday recovered 305 packets of suspected contraband substance from an orange-ladden truck coming from PoK on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad Road. Mir said the seized contraband has been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory for a detailed examination.(PTI)

3 of family die of asphyxiation

Gwalior: Three members of a family were found dead apparently due to asphyxiation caused by a coal brazier lit in their room to keep warm here, police said. Mukesh Khatik (30), his wife Meena (27) and daughter Dabu (2) were found unresponsive by a relative living next door when he brought dinner for them late on Saturday night at Khatik Colony, Inderganj police station incharge R S Tomar said. Meena’s brother knocked at their door for a while after which he entered the room to find the three unresponsive. He along with other family members rushed Mukesh and his family to a hospital where a doctor pronounced them brought dead, Tomar said. The coal brazier (angeethi) was found lit in the small room and prime facie it appears that they inhaled the toxic gas from it which led to their death, he said. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the exact reason of their death will be known once the report is out, he said. A case has been registered and police are further investigating, he added. 10-year-old boy arrested for eve-teasing minor school girl

Bagpat(UP):A 10-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly eve-teasing a minor girl outside her school premises here, police said on Sunday. According to the complaint filed by girl’s family, the boy waited outside her institution and allegedly eve-teased the fourth grade student during the after-hours of school for a period of time. The accused misbehaved with the other school girls too. He had been eve-teasing the victim for a long time, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Vidyasagar Mishra said. A complaint was lodged yesterday, following which the boy was arrested from Badaut area, he said. Police is investigating the matter, Mishra said. (PTI)
