Shillong Cricket League: Aurobindo CC beat NFU

SHILLONG: Aurobindo CC defeated NFU by 2 wickets in the league match of the Super Division Shillong Cricket League 2015 organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo on Sunday. NFU CC won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored for 163/8 in 36 overs. Sylverster Mylliempdah scored  71 runs off 96 balls and Surya rai scored 46 runs off 64 balls. Ujjal singh bowling figures of 8 overs 32 runs 3 wickets and Kamalej Deb 7 overs 21 runs 1 wickets restricted NFU. In reply, Aurobindo CC reached the target only after losing 8 wickets in 32 overs. Abhay kr Rai’s innings of 67 runs off 76 balls and Vishal singh 24 runs off 48 balls with 18 runs upset NFU who look like favorites. Sylverster with 6 overs 39 runs 3 wickets and Lakhan singh 6 overs 36 runs 2 wickets were successful bowlers for NFU. Meanwhile , SCA has called for entry to the Inter Office cum Corporate League schedule to commence from March. Forms are available at the SCA office and the last date for submission is 28th February 2015.

Cueist Advani remains unbeaten

Bengaluru: National champion Pankaj Advani continued his imperious run as he won all his three matches here Sunday to maintain his unbeaten record after five matches in the selection trials for the Asian Snooker Championship to be held in Malaysia later this year. Advani marked his consistency with a 4-0 win over arch-rival Kamal Chawla with breaks of 72, 76 and 75 besides overcoming Dharmender Lilly 4-3 and Faisal Khan 4-0. (IANS)

Atletico Madrid’s Koke injured in Madrid Derby

Madrid: Atletico Madrid may be without key midfielder Koke for over a month after he suffered a torn hamstring in his side’s 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid Saturday. “The player suffered a torn hamstring in the back part of his left leg,” the defending La Liga champions said in a statement, reports Xinhua. The 23-year-old Koke is set to miss the Champions League last-16 first-leg against Bayer Leverkusen this month and possibly the league clashes against Sevilla and Valencia. The 4-0 victory pulled Atletico within four points of their capital neighbours and level with Barcelona, who play their game-in-hand Sunday away at Athletic Bilbao. (IANS)

Golfer Lahiri wins Malaysian Open

Kuala Lumpur: Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri Sunday claimed the biggest victory of his career with a one-stroke win over Austrian Bernd Wiesberger at the $3 million Malaysian Open here. The 27-year-old Lahiri, who trailed by five strokes heading into the final round, closed with a four-under-par 68 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club’s West Course to lift the Seagram Trophy and win a $500,000 cheque. Qatar set to host F 1 race

Doha:  Qatar is set to sign a contract to host a Formula 1 race within the next two years. International Automobile Federation (FIA) vice-president Nasser bin Khalifa al-Attiyah, who is also the president of Qatar’s motorsport federation, said Sunday that the race will be held in 2016 or 2017, reports Xinhua. “We are about to sign contracts to organise a Formula 1 race. We have completed all the steps and there are only a few details before the official signature,” he said. (IANS)
