Dry day imposed to maintain peace

NONGPOH: Taking no chance for another ugly episode of breakdown of law and order in the district within barely 48 hours left for the end of NGT’s clearance for transportation of assessed and mined coal, the Ri Bhoi District Administration on Monday imposed dry day for 72 hours in part of the district for maintenance of public tranquility.
According to an order signed by Additional District Magistrate D. Phawa under section 52 (1) of Meghalaya Excise Act, all IMFL Retail Shops/ Bars/ Hotels/ Bonded Warehouses/ Bottling Units/ Country made Spirit shops/ Outstills/ Breweries/ Canteens etc located at Pahamrioh Lumbyrhing, Umnget and Umran Dairy should remain closed for three days with effect from Monday for preservation of public peace.
