Life affected in North Tripura following strike
Agartala:Normal life paralysed in North Tripura on Monday, as both Congress and CPI(M) has called for a down to dusk general strike in Unokoti district protesting against alleged murder of two youths at Kajirgoan of Kailashahar. All the business establishments, educational institutions, public offices were remained close and all the vehicles were stayed off the roads.The agitators prevented movement of inter-state movement of buses and other vehicles from the towns of the district. The connectivity with state capital was also snapped. However, there is no report of chaos.Superintendent of Police (Control) Uttam Majumdar said police is investigating the case for the murder of two youths yesterday but there is no arrest so far.The bodies are identified as Anjan Deb (40) and Pallab Debnath (37).The bodies are having marks of deep injury on head of both deceased. Mr Majumder however, said extra deployment has been made to cease the tension.Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President and MLA of Kailashahar Birajit Sinha alleged that these are political murders, as both the persons belong to Congress party.He also stated that police is trying to shield the accused.(UNI)
Four poachers arrested, baby elephant rescued
Itanagar: In a joint operation conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Department and Police has arrested four suspected poachers and rescued a baby elephant in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The apprehended persons were, Andha Gorh, Champomang Mannoi, Bula Sharma and Shingkai Chingkai who were involved in interstate smuggling of wild elephants in Kerem area of Namsai district of the state. All the accused were arrested on Friday last in a well-coordinated operation, according to official sources informed here on Monday. The arrests were the result of a month long investigation and the accused have accepted their involvement before the investing team, informed the Pasighat DFO (T) Tabang Jamoh in an official release on Monday. Jamoh further added that two baby elephants captured from Siluk area under Mebo subdivision of East Siang District along with two trainer elephants were found in the custody of the said poachers. Army finds war-like stores of arms in Assam forest
Guwahati:Army troops today recovered a huge cache of war-like stores in Mana Reserve Forest in lower Assam’s Chirang district and averted a major mishap. According to a statement from the Army, troops of the Red Horns division found an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately six kg, documents with details of extortions being carried out by NDFB(S) and details of important overground workers and link men working at the behest of the outlawed militant outfit. The recoveries are a setback for the activities of NDFB(S) in Chirang district, it said adding that now the Army will be able to track their activities, impose a caution in the minds of the extremists and hamper their future plans to carry out subversive activities, it said. Nagaland HM says Tuensang situation to be tackle
Kohima:Nagaland Home Minister Y Patton has said the government on its part will do whatever it can within its disposal to protect the life and properties of all its citizens affected by the recent conflict. In a press release from the Home Minister Patton called upon all citizens of Tuensang district ‘not to make the present crisis as a clash between the communities or tribes and at the same time appeal the civil societies and all like-minded people to intervene so as to restore normalcy. The District administration is directed to take with all necessary measures to curtail all kinds of attempt by anti social elements to flare up the situations and is on the job, he stated. ‘I appeal to the villages, who are engrossed with the present conflict to resolve the matter amicably. Further I also appeal to the citizens of Tuensang district not to make the present crises as a clash between the communities or tribes and at the same time appeal the civil societies and all like- minded people to intervene so as to restore normalcy,’ appealed the State Home Minister.(UNI)
Nagaland churches reaffirm freedom to propagate religion
Kohima: The apex body of Baptist churches in Nagaland has reaffirmed the freedom to choose and propagate religious beliefs without allurement or threat. The affirmation was made during a four-day 20th triennial convention of Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) under the theme, “In Step With The Spirit,” which concluded yesterday at Konyak Baptist Church Council (KBBB) Mission Centre, Mon district, some 336 kms from the state capital. The convention adopted resolutions which include reaffirmation on freedom to choose and propagate religious beliefs without allurement or threat, a NBCC release said. The convention also resolved to strengthen commitment to the Christian faith by conducting Bible study, revival meetings and care ministry in line with the theme of the convention, the release said. The drafting committee had drawn up the resolution against the backdrop of spiritual decadence and rise of various other social evils that pose a threat to the church.(PTI)
Mob lynches militant in Assam
Guwahati:An irate mob in Assam’s Dima Hasao district lynched a militant and injured two others when they reached a village where people were celebrating a festival, police said on Monday.The incident took place Sunday in the remote Thongikro village, about 70 km from district headquarters Haflong. The villagers were celebrating the Bishu Dima festival. Four cadres of the lesser known militant outfit Dima Hasao National Army (DHNA) appeared there and they had an altercation with the villagers. “The angry villagers then attacked the four militants and beat them up severely, leading to the death of one,” a police official said in Dima Hasao district. Another militant, who also faced the public wrath, managed to escape. “It’s a remote location and we do not have a permanent post there. However, we have deployed security personnel in and around the area,” the police official said.Last week, five cadres of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were beaten up by a mob when they had come to extort money during a function in Borsimaluguri village in Baksa district. The five were later handed over to police by the villagers.(IANS)
